Sikh Religion and Basic Beliefs

Sikhism is the world’s youngest monotheistic religion: It was founded in India by Guru Nanak Dev Ji (born 1469) and built upon by the nine prophet teachers (Gurus) who succeeded Him. The word “Sikh” means disciple or student in Punjabi. Sikhism is distinct from Hinduism or Islam – with its own unique, divine scripture embodied in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Sikh Holy Book). It is the fifth largest religion emphasising universality, meaning it is open to all – recognises and respects all human beings as equals, does not distinguish between race, class, caste, or other earthly distinctions between people. It emphasises men and women as equal in all aspects of life. Sikh place of worship is called ‘Gurdwara’

Basic Beliefs

There is only one God.
Equality of mankind.
Serving humanity with part of your earned income and time
Freedom and liberty for all.
Speaking out against injustice and standing up for the defenseless is considered a Sikh’s duty.
Condemnation of superstitions and blind rituals.
Intoxications such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs are strictly forbidden.

Our Mission

Our Vision

The founder of Sikhism, our reverend First Sikh Guru “Guru Nanak”, provided the following three cardinal principles to humanity:

KIRAT KARO: To lead an honest, pure and dedicated existence by exercising God-given skills, abilities, talents and hard labour for the benefit and improvement of the individual, their family and the community.
NAAM JAPO: Refers to the meditation, vocal singing of hymns of the various names of God, especially the chanting of the word ‘Waheguru’, which means ‘Wonderful Lord’.
VAND CHHAKO: To share what you have and to consume it together as a community. This could be wealth, food, etc.

The vision of this school is based on HIS teachings and will be conveyed as follows:
